To facilitate software upgrades, the Grid-Ireland National Services and the site at Trinity College Dublin will be in downtime from 8am to 2pm on Tuesday 2nd February. As the national services are affected, the usual job submission and access to data will be unavailable much of this time.

The Grid-Ireland Operations Centre at TCD and the grid cluster at TCD will be unavailable from 9am until 1pm on Wednesday 30th September to allow for software maintenance.
Some services may be available before the end of the scheduled period, but they should be considered "at risk".

In order to test the functionality of recently implemented network architecture, a period of network downtime during which College will have no internet connection is scheduled from 8am to 9am on Thursday, 23rd July 2009. The following hour, from 9am to 10am, should be considered as an 'at risk' period during which we will specifically monitor the network for any instability in service and take any necessary action to restore this service.

In May 2007 the European Grid infratructure, EGEE, was used to submit over 100,000 jobs per day, or more than 3 million jobs during May. In 2007 it is likely to handle more than 40 million jobs.

During April, computers in Ireland have been working overtime in the fight
against avian flu. As part of an international collaboration, computers at
Trinity College Dublin have put in 6.7 thousand hours of time searching for
possible drug components against the avian flu virus H5N1. The analysis used a
computing Grid, a new network that brings together worldwide computer
resources to solve scientific problems.

A shared cluster has been made available at TCD for use by unaffiliated Grid users. 11 nodes are currently available and it is hoped to extend the cluster in the near future. It is primarily intended for researchers who want to use the Grid but are not part of an existing Grid project. Email grid-ireland-help@cs.tcd.ie if you would like to access the SoloVO cluster.
