Operations Centre

The Grid-Ireland Operations Centre is run by the Computer Architecture and Grid Research Group at Trinity College Dublin. There are currently 8 staff working to manage the Grid-Ireland infrastructure and testbed, which comprises over 400 servers. A number of research articles on the work of the Operations Centre team have been published. This research is done in conjunction with other grid research conducted by the Computer Architecture and Grid Research Group.

For details of publications, see: TCD Research Support System, Dr.Brian Coghlan

Resources

The OpsCentre includes compute and storage resources accessible to Irish and European researchers using gLite and Globus technology. Current users include:
Atlas and LHCb experiments from the Large Hadron Collider Computing Grid
biomedical, earth sciences, and computational chemistry researchers affiliated to EGEE
cosmic physics, solar physics, astronomy, computer science, bioinformatics and maths users from Ireland

Compute

A 96-node cluster of dual quad-core machines offers a total of 768 cores for computation. Each group of 32 nodes is connected via 1Gbps Ethernet to each other and share a 10Gbps connection to the OpsCentre 10Ge network.

Data

Over 600TB of data storage is provided by the Regional e-INIS Datastore managed by the OpsCentre. Those grid users who have obtained e-INIS space allocations can access their allocated storage via the Grid. Approximately 375TB is directly-attached RAID6 storage targetted to write-once data and managed using Disk Pool Manager (DPM) software which provides a range of access interfaces including SRM. Another 232TB is high-availability RAID6 storage targetted to write-many data and managed using iRODS digital repository software. The datastore is connected via multiple 10Gbps connections to the OpsCentre 10Ge network.

Grid services

The OpsCentre provides the services necessary to create and support virtual organisations. These include LCG Resource Broker, gLite Workload Management System, VOMS, LFC, MyProxy.
